    On Intuitionistic Fuzzy Entropy of Order-α

    Using the idea of Rènyi’s entropy, intuitionistic fuzzy entropy of order-α is proposed in the setting of intuitionistic fuzzy sets theory. This measure is a generalized version of fuzzy entropy of order-α proposed by Bhandari and Pal and intuitionistic fuzzy entropy defined by Vlachos and Sergiadis. Our study of the four essential and some other properties of the proposed measure clearly establishes the validity of the measure as intuitionistic fuzzy entropy. Finally, a numerical example is given to show that the proposed entropy measure for intuitionistic fuzzy set is reasonable by comparing it with other existing entropies

    Metal Recovery Using Oxalate Chemistry: A Technical Review

    Energy-efficient metal recovery and separation processes from a mixture of valuable metals are vital to the metallurgy and recycling industries. Oxalate has been identified as a sustainable reagent that can provide both the desired selectivity and efficient leaching capabilities for a variety of mixed metals under mild reaction conditions. The oxalate process has a great potential to replace many of the existing metal recovery processes that use inorganic acids such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, and nitric acids. In this Review, the use of oxalate chemistry in four major metal recovery applications is discussed, namely, spent lithium-ion batteries, spent catalysts, valuable ores, and contaminated and unwanted waste streams. Recycling of critical and precious metals from spent lithium-ion batteries and catalysts has significant economic opportunities. For efficient metals recovery, reaction conditions (e.g., temperature, pH, time, and concentration), metal–oxalate complex formation, oxidation and reduction, and metal precipitation must all be well-understood. This Review provides an overview from articles and patents for a variety of metal recovery processes along with insights into future process development

    Comparative study of laser versus open lateral internal sphincterotomy in the treatment of anal fissure

    Background: Anal fissure is a common proctological problem that causes anal pain during and after defecation. An anal fissure is a linear ulcer that presents at the anal verge. It is more common in females than males and can be seen either in the anterior or posterior midline, just distal to the dentate line. Aims and Objectives: Comparison of Laser versus Open lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) in the treatment of anal fissures. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in 50 cases of Open LIS compared with 50 cases of laser LIS (LLIS) in patients admitted to the Department of Surgery, M.L.B. Medical College, Jhansi (UP), India, between January 2021 and June 2022. Results: Out of 50 cases of open LIS, 10 patients presented with bleeding, 10 patients presented with hematoma/perianal swelling and 5 patients presented with pain as compared to 50 cases of LLIS, hematoma/perianal swelling (1 patient) and pain (2 patients) were found as an early post-operative complication. Mean hospital stay was 2.84±1.128 days in Open LIS as compared to 1.02±0.141 days in LLIS. The pain was presented in 1 patient as the only late post-operative complication in LLIS as compared to pain (25 patients), bleeding (10 patients), infection (2 patients), and flatus incontinence (1 patient) in Open LIS, at 2 weeks follow-up and recurrence in 1 patient in laser and in 3 patients in open LIS at 6 weeks follow up. Conclusion: LLIS significantly reduces early postoperative complications such as postoperative pain, bleeding, and hematoma as compared to open LIS. The duration of hospital stay was significantly less in LLIS in comparison to open LIS. None of the patients presented with the flatus or stool incontinence who had undergone LLIS while in Open LIS, 12% of patients presented with flatus incontinence, and 2% of patients presented with stool incontinence during follow-up in 2–6 weeks

    CD200-CD200R1 inhibitory signaling prevents spontaneous bacterial infection and promotes resolution of neuroinflammation and recovery after stroke

    Abstract Background Ischemic stroke results in a robust inflammatory response within the central nervous system. As the immune-inhibitory CD200-CD200 receptor 1 (CD200R1) signaling axis is a known regulator of immune homeostasis, we hypothesized that it may play a role in post-stroke immune suppression after stroke. Methods In this study, we investigated the role of CD200R1-mediated signaling in stroke using CD200 receptor 1-deficient mice. Mice were subjected to a 60-min middle cerebral artery occlusion and evaluated at days 3 and 7, representing the respective peak and early resolution stages of neuroinflammation in this model of ischemic stroke. Infarct size and behavioral deficits were assessed at both time points. Central and peripheral cellular immune responses were measured using flow cytometry. Bacterial colonization was determined in lung tissue homogenates both after acute stroke and in an LPS model of systemic inflammation. Results In wild-type (WT) animals, CD200R1 was expressed on infiltrating monocytes and lymphocytes after stroke but was absent on microglia. Early after ischemia (72 h), CD200R1-knockout (KO) mice had significantly poorer survival rates and an enhanced susceptibility to spontaneous bacterial colonization of the respiratory tract compared to wild-type (WT) controls, despite no difference in infarct or neurological deficits. While the CNS inflammation was resolved by day 7 post-stroke in WT mice, brain-resident microglia and monocyte activation persisted in CD200R1-KO mice, accompanied by a delayed, augmented lymphocyte response. At this time point, CD200R1-KO mice displayed greater weight loss, more severe neurological deficits, and impaired motor function compared to WT. Systemically, CD200R1-KO mice exhibited signs of persistent infection including lymphopenia, T cell activation and memory conversion, and narrowing of the TCR repertoire. These findings were confirmed in a second model of acute neuroinflammation induced by systemic endotoxin challenge. Conclusion This study defines an essential role of CD200-CD200R1 signaling in stroke. Loss of CD200R1 led to high mortality, increased rates of post-stroke infection, and enhanced entry of peripheral leukocytes into the brain after ischemia, with no increase in infarct size. This suggests that the loss of CD200 receptor leads to enhanced peripheral inflammation that is triggered by brain injury.https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/148133/1/12974_2019_Article_1426.pd

    Deep Rooting In-Situ Expansion of mtDNA Haplogroup R8 in South Asia

    The phylogeny of the indigenous Indian-specific mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups have been determined and refined in previous reports. Similar to mtDNA superhaplogroups M and N, a profusion of reports are also available for superhaplogroup R. However, there is a dearth of information on South Asian subhaplogroups in particular, including R8. Therefore, we ought to access the genealogy and pre-historic expansion of haplogroup R8 which is considered one of the autochthonous lineages of South Asia.Upon screening the mtDNA of 5,836 individuals belonging to 104 distinct ethnic populations of the Indian subcontinent, we found 54 individuals with the HVS-I motif that defines the R8 haplogroup. Complete mtDNA sequencing of these 54 individuals revealed two deep-rooted subclades: R8a and R8b. Furthermore, these subclades split into several fine subclades. An isofrequency contour map detected the highest frequency of R8 in the state of Orissa. Spearman's rank correlation analysis suggests significant correlation of R8 occurrence with geography.The coalescent age of newly-characterized subclades of R8, R8a (15.4+/-7.2 Kya) and R8b (25.7+/-10.2 Kya) indicates that the initial maternal colonization of this haplogroup occurred during the middle and upper Paleolithic period, roughly around 40 to 45 Kya. These results signify that the southern part of Orissa currently inhabited by Munda speakers is likely the origin of these autochthonous maternal deep-rooted haplogroups. Our high-resolution study on the genesis of R8 haplogroup provides ample evidence of its deep-rooted ancestry among the Orissa (Austro-Asiatic) tribes

    Forty years of applied mathematical modelling: A bibliometric study

    The Journal of Applied Mathematical Modelling (AMM) is a leading international journal in the field of mathematics and engineering focused on research related to mathematical modelling of engineering and environmental processes, manufacturing, and industrial systems, whose first issue was published in 1976. Motivated by the 40th anniversary in 2016, this study aims to develop a bibliometric overview of the publications published in the journal from 1976 to 2016. The objective of this work is to identify the leading variables and trends which have influenced the journal most during these years. In doing so, the study uses the Web of Science Core Collection database to analyze the data. This work also develops a graphical mapping of the bibliometric material by using the visualization of similarities (VOS) viewer software. These graphs represent bibliographic coupling, citation and co-citation analysis, co-authorship and co-occurrence of keywords. The results show the diversity of the published documents and significant growth of the journal through time
